Aging Parents

October 14, 2015

So, just as I got around to creating this new blog and import all my posts from the old blog, I run into stuff that blocks my brain from working, causes my body to just want to do nothing…or to do stuff to get it over with. That is not a good state of mind to be in when writing a blog, but here I am, in that mood.

My siblings and I (there are 6 of us) are getting stuff together for my parents. See, like me, my mother has always taken care of all the paperwork, bills, appointments, etc. for her household. Okay, more accurately, I am like her…that’s where I learned it, that’s where I get it from. So, she successfully did all that for about 63 years, until she fell. She hit her head a couple of years ago and ever since, her memory and organization skills have been slipping. So now it’s all a mess and we have to fix it. But, of course, she isn’t really amenable to all of it. After all, she can do it she says. Sigh. What a difficult thing this all is.

My father is 90, my mother is 85. We started all this by having a family meeting to discuss the inevitable. Imagine that conversation. Talking to your parents about when they die is not that much fun, that’s for sure. I have been on an emotional roller coaster ever since. I just can’t wait until we have it all settled and organized so we can just enjoy them without the drama of all this.
